Attosecond XUV Light - Charge, Spin, Dichroism, Ferroelectricity, and Logic

Abstract:

Attosecond XUV spectroscopic investigations with linearly and circularly polarized light is considered, which can address spin states and orbital alignment effects in solids. With a four-mirror polarizer and polarization optics for visible light, XUV attosecond pulses are used to measure linear and circular dichroism and magnetic circular dichroism in a table-top laboratory. This talk will consider the measurement of charge transfer processes in solids, linear and circular dichroism of spins and aligned/oriented states in solids, the transport of spins across interfaces, and the loss of spin alignment in bulk materials. Separately, a ferroelectric material shows a possible dependence of its ferroelectricity on carrier density. A possible extension to form logic gates represents another direction that takes advantage of attosecond XUV pulse technology.
