Biography

Shilpa Srinivasan, MD, is Vice Chair for Medical Staff Affairs-Behavioral Health Midlands and Professor of Clinical Psychiatry in the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Prisma Health Midlands-University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. She is the Training Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program and Psychiatry Medical Student (M4) clerkship director. Srinivasan received her medical degree from Szeged, Hungary. She completed psychiatry residency training at Tulane University School of Medicine, where she was chief resident. She completed geriatric psychiatry fellowship training at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. Srinivasan joined the faculty at the USC Floyd School of Medicine in 2006.

Srinivasan’s clinical expertise is in the diagnostic evaluation and management of neurocognitive disorders (dementia), late life mental illness, and geriatric telemental health. She is board-certified in General Psychiatry and in Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Her research/scholarly focus includes Alzheimer’s disease and curriculum development.

Srinivasan is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Jack Weinberg Memorial Award for Geriatric Psychiatry from the American Psychiatric Association (APA)., Clinician of the Year and Educator of the Year awards from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.

Srinivasan has held several regional and national leadership roles, including the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry where she has held elected office positions. She is a board member of the SC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. 

Srinivasan serves as Chair of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) Geriatric Psychiatry Article Based Continuing Certification (ABCC) Exam Committee, and is a past recipient of the ABPN Faculty Innovation in Education Award. She is a past president of the South Carolina Psychiatric Association, distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
