Galen Health Fellows

Welcome from the Faculty Principal

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to the Galen Health Fellows Living-Learning Community at the University of South Carolina! It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to this vibrant, interdisciplinary community that supports students as they transition to college life while exploring future careers in healthcare.

Galen Health Fellows brings together students from a wide range of health-related majors and interests, creating an environment where learning extends beyond the classroom. This community is built on USC’s commitment to mentorship, experiential learning, professional development, and meaningful connection which are values that guide everything we do.

As someone who has spent the past 25 years mentoring and guiding students pursuing careers in healthcare, I am truly honored to serve as the Faculty Director of Galen Health Fellows. My work at USC has consistently centered on helping students find direction, build confidence, and take advantage of opportunities that shape their academic, professional, and personal growth. Galen Health Fellows represents the very best of that mission.

What You Can Expect as a Galen Health Fellow
Throughout your time in this community, you will have access to:

  • Interprofessional experiences that help you understand how different health disciplines work together to improve patient care.
  • High-impact learning opportunities such as student research grants, internships, and study abroad experiences.
  • Professional development events, including workshops, guest speakers, and networking with healthcare professionals.
  • A supportive peer and faculty network, that encourages both academic success and personal well-being.

Accessibility and Support
One of my core commitments as Faculty Director is being present and accessible. Students and families should always feel comfortable reaching out to me with questions, ideas, or concerns. I want you to know that my door is truly open. Students are welcome to email, me at any time, and I encourage them to stop by my office in Patterson Hall whenever they need guidance, support, or simply want to talk. Galen Health Fellows is a community built on communication and trust, and I value student and family input as we continue to grow and improve the program together.

To our students: you are joining a community that believes in you and is invested in your success. I look forward to getting to know you, learning about your goals, and supporting you as you begin your journey at USC.

To our families: thank you for entrusting us with your students. We are committed to providing an environment where they are supported academically, personally, and professionally as they prepare for meaningful futures in healthcare.

Welcome to Galen Health Fellows—I am excited for the year ahead and cannot wait to meet you.
