Funding for Undergraduate Research

The University of South Carolina champions students’ involvement in faculty-mentored research and creative or scholarly pursuits through competitive grants funding.  There are funding opportunities for students at any stage of the research experience from the Office of Undergraduate Research and other organizations on campus. 

Grants Open to Students of All Campuses and Majors

Journey Grant: 

No mentor or project needed to apply; awardees will work under the guidance of a USC faculty mentor. 

Campus Partner Grant

Up to $1,500 for student affiliated with an on-campus Living-Learning Communities and the Office of Sustainability.  The Undergraduate Research Campus Partner Grant provides salary funding for students conducting faculty-mentored research. 

Mini-Grant

Up to $1,000 for students working under the guidance of a USC faculty, staff or community member on any scholarly, research, or creative project

Magellan Scholar Grant

Up to $2,500 available to students working with a mentor on any scholarly, research, or creative project

Conference Presentation Grant

Up to $500 for students to travel and share their research at events through activities such as poster sessions, presentations, performances, and screenings at conferences, meetings symposiums, or other professional gatherings.
