Background

Dr. April Knill is the BPF Moore Fellow and Professor of International Finance in the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. She previously served on the finance faculty at Florida State University, including as the Truist Professor of Finance and a Courtesy Professor of Law, and earlier worked as a consultant in the World Bank Group’s Development Research Group. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park.

Her research bridges international corporate finance, political economy, law and finance, and corporate governance. Professor Knill has published in journals such as Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Review of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Business, Journal of International Business Policy, Journal of Law & Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Financial Management, and Journal of Comparative Economics, among others. Her research has received numerous awards, including a Dean’s Emerging Scholar Award and the CIBER/FMA Award for the Best Dissertation in International Finance.

Dr. Knill has extensive editorial and professional service experience. She currently serves as one of the Finance Area Editors at JIBS (2026–present), Editor at Corporate Governance: An International Review(2025–present), and Associate Editor at both the Journal of Financial Research (2023–present) and the Global Finance Journal (2021–present). Prior to assuming her current role at JIBS, she contributed as a Consulting Editor (2019–2025) and as a member of the journal’s Editorial Review Board (2016–2019), providing her with a strong, end-to-end perspective on developing, evaluating, and positioning impactful research. She has also served in various roles at regional and international associations, including the Academy of International Business, the Eastern Finance Association, and the Southern Finance Association.
