College of EducationAt a Glance

The University of South Carolina College of Education is a state and national leader in preparing future teachers, counselors, education administrators, researchers and policymakers.

With more than 30,000 graduates and growing every year, all students in South Carolina are taught by at least one College of Education alumni. That’s impact that spans the state’s classrooms and schools, developing leaders who advocate for today’s teaching professionals and pursue solutions leading to educational excellence.

Preparing Educators

The College of Education’s 60 programs and course sequences provide educational options for P-12 education, K-12 administration, higher education, counseling and special education in four academic departments. Many faculty members are former teachers and administrators. That working experience underlines the need to weave equity and diversity throughout the curriculum and equip education students with strategies to improve learning outcomes for students from underrepresented populations.

Putting Theory into Practice

As early as their first semester, undergraduate students receive real-world P-12 classroom experience that enhances their skills and offers a post-graduation, competitive edge. With 342 partner schools in five districts across the state, students gain more than 700 hours of experience observing and teaching in schools with diverse student bodies in rural, suburban and urban settings.

Gaining Understanding

The college is committed to improving education through collaborations and partnerships designed to improve learning outcomes for students throughout South Carolina. In the university’s Anne Frank Center, the only official Anne Frank House partner site in North America, we inspire a commitment to stand up against antisemitism, bigotry and inequality wherever it exists. The Apple Core Initiative strives to enroll education students from historically underrepresented populations to increase both capacity and representation.
