Why should I join?

Enrolling in these three required courses with the same small cohort will give you a strong sense of academic community, making a big school feel smaller. Together, you’ll explore powerful connections linking these different subject areas. In the Carolina Core Cohort, you will:

  • Be part of a small learning community of 20 students and three faculty.
  • Explore big questions about democracy, ethics and public discourse.
  • Connect ideas across subjects and apply them in multiple classes.
  • Strengthen your writing, speaking and argumentation skills.
  • Participate in dynamic discussions across courses.
  • Complete six of the eleven Carolina Core and Founding Documents requirements in one semester.

What is the Carolina Core?

The Carolina Core gives every undergraduate at USC a strong academic foundation, no matter their major. By exploring subjects across the liberal arts and sciences, students gain skills that support success in any major while discovering new interests and career possibilities. These courses can introduce students to new fields of study they may not have considered before college. Learn more about the Carolina Core.

Who can join?
