The scholastic media organizations of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications serve middle and high school journalism programs in South Carolina. Through conventions and conferences, evaluative services, scholarship opportunities and various individual competitions, SCSPA and SIPA strive to empower, educate and support scholastic journalism programs.
South Carolina Scholastic Press Association – state organization. During its more than 75-year history, the S.C. Scholastic Press Association has been dedicated to educating, serving, honoring and evaluating students and advisers working on broadcasting, literary magazine, newspaper, online and yearbook staffs in both public and private middle and high schools in South Carolina.
Southern Interscholastic Press Association – regional organization. SIPA is a not-for-profit organization of public schools over 15 states in the Southeast. Its purpose is to educate and support journalism programs in middle and high schools through an annual convention, evaluative services, scholarships, individual awards and adviser networking.
